Out of the box 2The Kenyan literature scene has been growing steadily with Kenyan writers being recognized for their work and with quite a number publishing books in the past year. Ngure Matu Ndiritu, a 8 year old, has joined the bandwagon by publishing a book titled, ‘Out of the Box’.  The book was published by Phoenix Publishers and has wonderful illustrations by Robert Kambo.

The book is a collection of short stories and is interspersed with comments in the form of word bubbles. Some of the stories are: ‘Waturi and the Kitten’ about a little girl that finds an injured kitten and takes him in, ‘The Brave Elephant’ that becomes friend with a dinosaur and ‘James’ about a poor boy that helps heal a princess.  There are some recurring characters in the stories and Ngure even features himself in some of the stories.

Out of the boxNgure is creative in his writing and has an interesting imagination that is sure to appeal to other kids. It’s definitely a good start and hopefully this will inspire other children to take up writing and publish books. These will be the writers of the future.

The book is available at Text Book Center.
