iStats ReportNMG owned NTV has emerged as the most talked about brand on Twitter in Kenya following the results of a report by iStats released today, 1st September. The report saw a clean sweep by traditional media brands which took all first five positions with Citizen TV, Nation FM, KTN and Capital FM taking the other four slots in that order. The dominance of media in online conversations also saw twitter conversations for all brands peak at 9:00pm during prime time news.

The research conducted by iStats, a monitoring app by Internet Exposure Limited, was carried out over eight weeks. It followed Twitter activity for over 95 Kenyan brands that are active online in a bid to establish which brands are at the centre of conversations for Kenyans on Twitter commonly referred to as KOT. The research collected over 1.1 million tweets mentioning various brands for eight weeks since July 30th using automated software.

According to Jack Mugi, the creator of the software who is also a digital practitioner and social media trainer, the report which will be released every month seeks to measure conversations around brands and is expanding the monitoring to cover educational institutions and government in the new batch of research that is slotted to start today.

He added, “Our goal is to provide a comparative measure of how brands and other entities are performing online. This is brought about by a realization that most reports in digital marketing locally focus on a particular brand or campaign without necessarily putting into account performance amongst peers and players from other industries.”

Other winners in other categories include Daily Nation as the most talked about daily paper beating The Standard. Kenya Commercial bank in the banking category edged Equity Bank to first place with Chase Bank coming in third. UAP emerged as the most talked about insurance company beating Old Mutual and Britam which took second and third place respectively. Safaricom narrowly beat Airtel while Samsung is the most talked about phone brand with Infinix coming in second.
