pascal tokodi

First time I came across Pascal Tokodi was on the musical TV show Groove Theory. (He actually got nominated for a Kalasha Award in 2014 for his role.) I thought he was talented and well, easy on the eyes. Next time I came across the 22 year old Kenyan RnB singer was on the Tecno Own The Stage competition, where he scooped the 2nd runners-up position. Already being a fan, I was pretty excited when I received word of his debut single.

The jam is titled, ‘Sitaki’ and is produced by a 19 year old Producer, Keshan. The song is a sweet love ballad with pretty good lyrics (I mean, the first line of the song is ‘Every fire needs its oxygen just like I need you in my life’) and a catchy chorus. The video is directed by Natasha Likimani. (I was pleasantly surprised by this as I’ve known her mostly as a screenwriter.) The video is black and white and has a storyline that goes nicely with the song. I like the direction especially because of the realistic chemistry between Pascal and his love interest in the video. There is a tasteful amount of kissing and googly eyes and I like it! It definitely pays homage to young love.

This is definitely a good start for Pascal Tokodi and I think he has what it takes to make it on the Kenyan music scene. I have a feeling he’s going to be very popular especially with the young ladies.

Fav lyrics: Well I feel some typa way, when I’m with you baby, and I don’t know what to say na sitaki mwingine.

Fav moment: When he winks at the end. (Hae pls.)

Jam best for: That pure unadulterated love. The kind before you knew what heartbreak tasted like.

You can download a free MP3 of the song here.
