Lenovo Intel Cafe

The world is more competitive than ever and I’ll admit I’m one of those workaholic young women out here. The opportunities are more abundant than ever but so is the stress. Half the time I feel like I am in the middle of a never-ending rat race. I am single with no children and I am struggling to have some semblance of work life balance. I can only imagine how much harder it is for women with children to manage.

Intel and Lenovo have partnered to empower women to maintain work life balance through technology. They held a breakfast for a room full of amazing women at Radisson Blu in partnership with Supamamas. Other than the delicious food and great ambiance, the presentations were informative and timely.

Intel launched the She Will Connect programme in 2015 to bridge the gender and digital gap. The Women and the Web Report established that there are nearly 25% fewer women than men online in developing countries. This is definitely a going concern for gender parity considering the amount of opportunities technology and being online offer.

A lot of the ladies that were in the are already leveraging technology to make their lives easier. Some of them even have businesses that are using tech to make the lives of women and children better in business, sports and health. Here are some of my takeaways from the event.

  • Work-life balance

Work-life balance is the ability to properly prioritize between work activities and non work activities such as leisure or family commitments. Technology is fantastic when making our work lives more convenient but can be detrimental when it also becomes our main source of entertainment. It is becoming increasingly common to socialize mostly online and be on our phones even when we have company. This attachment to technology also means working late nights basically blurring the line between work life and home life. It’s important to create boundaries especially in a family setup when it comes to use of technology. It is healthy to learn how to power down.

  • Online safety

We are witnessing the coming of age of the digital generation. Kids are growing up on social media are proving to be very savvy at it. More than ever, parents need to make effort to be digitally literate to keep up with what their kids are up to. There are not only predators online, but also other dangers such as identity theft, cyber bullying and access to inappropriate content. Kids however, are not the only ones that are vulnerable online, adults also need to be cautious in their internet use. Make sure to log out of shared computers, don’t open spam emails, don’t click on strange links, stay vigilant on public WiFi, read terms and conditions of websites/platforms and install a reliable antivirus.

  • Lenovo Yoga Series

Lenovo has launched the Yoga series – a sleek and modern range of 2 in 1 laptops that are light, intuitive and compact. The laptops range from Yoga 300, Yoga 500 and Yoga 900 all running on Intel processors and are perfect for the woman on the go.
