The Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) has launched the launch of the BAKE Awards 2017. As is the custom, this will also coincide with the launch of the submission phase of the competition. The annual blogging competition, which is in its 6th year, is the first of its kind and celebrates the best of Kenyan blogging.

The competition will begin today, January 9th 2017, where submissions will be accepted in the various categories. Thereafter, judges will decide the best 5 nominees from the submitted blogs which will then be voted for by the public. The winners will be awarded at a gala event on May 13th 2017.

The timeline this year is as follows:

1. Submission phase – January 9th 2017 to March 10th 2017
2. Judging phase – March 11th 2017 to March 28th 2017
3. Online voting – April 3rd 2017 to May 1st 2017
4. Winners’ Gala Event – May 13th 2017

There’s a new category this year, i.e. Best Lifestyle Blog, which means that the total number of categories is now 20. After feedback from the blogging community, BAKE have also introduced a rule that makes three-time (or more) winners in the awards ineligible to compete.

Last year’s contest saw 4,899 blogs being submitted and over 500,000 votes recorded. Women did well last year with bloggers such as Jamila El-Jabry (lifeinmombasa.com), Dr. Claire Kinuthia (theycallmedaktari.com), Maryann Waweru (mummytales.com), Rachael Muthoni (safari254.com), Diana Kaluhi (kaluhiskitchen.com) and Lucia Musau (luciamusau.com) emerging winners.
