One of the things that keeps me up at night is the fear of failure. I want to succeed in all facets of my life. I know that we tend to celebrate material success more but there’s more to being a success in my opinion. I really want to be a success at being a human being. I wish to be honestly liked and respected and to grow through the years in my emotional intelligence and character. I want to say things like, “Last year I was selfish and inconsiderate but this year I’m more considerate of other people” or “I wasn’t a good listener and would interrupt people but I’m focusing on listening to people to understand them this year” or “I wasn’t good at taking feedback from people but this year I’ve learned to” or “I was quiet when people abused boundaries in a relationship but this year I will be upfront and vocal about any abuses” etc Basically, what’s the point of material success if you’re still the same person year in year out? Don’t end up as one of those rich people that is emotionally incompetent. Don’t be a 13 year old stuck in a 40 year old’s body. We’re here to learn and grow. Now that’s a life well lived.
