We’re a communal species. The idea of being on your own with no support is a difficult one to process. However, being in a community requires effort in building sustainable and healthy relationships. One of the pillars of a good realationship is healthy communication skills.
I have to admit that my communication skills have been subpar in relationships over the years. We live in a society that promotes performance over authenticity as well as chasing false happiness over grappling with uncomfortable but real feelings. It’s a wonder we’re able to have honest conversations and to give and take critical feedback.

I’m passive aggressive and although I a self aware when it comes to this, I still find myself sometimes going back into tht unhealthy space as a defense mechanism. Thankfully, with lots of self effort, I manage to have difficult conversations and express my feelings especially when they are of pain to people I am in realtionships with. The idea of confrontation and of difficult conversations with loved ones can be a discourager but the longer important things go unsaid, the easier it is to fall apart when they build up.

I purpose to speak up more. To encourage those around me to speak up more. To listen. To take feedback. To have uncomfortable conversations. To let go of the fear of confrontation. Relationships cannot thrive without healthy communication and I definitely want to have healthy relationships.
