The Kenyan Government has launched a portal, Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU), that will see Kenyans able to track government projects online. The thinking behind this is to have a centralized resource when it comes to government projects that will see Kenyans access information that may have proved difficult to access before.

The PDU was created in 2015 and Nzioka Waita (formerly of Safaricom) appointed to head it. He has since been replaced by Andrew Wakahiu as he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff and Deputy Head of Public Service. I attended the unveiling of the PDU’s portal at the KICC COMESA Grounds on Monday 10th April. It was an interesting event that had President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto in attendance.

Notable activities at the launch were the remarks by Nzioka Waita which explained the thinking behind the portal. Other than centralizing information, he explained that focusing on an online portal was due to the fact that majority of Kenyans are youth under 20. This demographic is looking for convenience when accessing information especially as they are digitally savvy and as such an online portal works. There was also a panel discussion moderated by Larry Madowo that had both the President and Deputy President answer some tough questions on their government’s development scorecard.

The PDU portal is housed at delivery.go.ke and features 3 sections: Flagship Programmes, My County and Ministry Milestones. Under Flagship Programmes are ICT projects like Ajira Digital and Konza, Healthcare projects like NHIF Expansion and Free Maternity Care, Huduma Centres and Ease of Doing Business platform eCitizen among others.

Under Ministry Milestones, all ministries and what they have been able to achieve are listed. My County has all the 47 counties listed with a breakdown of what the funds disbursed to the counties has been used for. The portal tracks projects from 2013 to the present.

The portal is interactive with the PDU having accounts across social media from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube. There’s also a feedback form on the site with feedback being 24-48 hours.
