It was a lovely Friday afternoon and I couldn’t wait to have lunch at the Eagle’s Steakhouse at Ole Sereni. I know where Ole Sereni is and have passed there several times, but for some reason had never gone in. Ole Sereni offers 3 dining options. The waterhole serving snacks, biting’s, burgers, sandwiches and pizzas. The Big Five Restaurant serving lunch buffet’s consisting of Asian, Italian and Continental Cuisines and A La Carte dinner.

The first thing that struck me when I got into the hotel is the beautiful décor. Eagles Steak House is a fine dining Steak house located on the 4th Floor overlooking the Nairobi National Park. The Steakhouse serves signature steaks, meat cuts and fresh seafood cuisines and was originally opened only for dinner, but due to high demand have decided to open for lunch as well.

We kicked off the afternoon on the terrace enjoying the view while sipping on Rose and munching down on mini burgers. You can spot animals in the park from the terrace and though we did not manage to see any lions, we did see wildebeest which was quite a treat.

Lunch was served and we got into the restaurant. I switched to red dry wine and prepared myself for what I had been promised would be a gastronomical delight. The menu was red meat based with beef and pork dishes. I am not a big red meat lover as most of my diet is made up of chicken, fish and sea food, but I do appreciate good steak, and that was what I expected from this experience. Also, there isn’t a big understanding of how to cook red meat in terms of cuts in Kenyan cuisine so the dishes I’ve had in the past have always been a little on the boring side.

We sampled quite a few meat dishes and at some point, I could hardly take another bite. There was the beef fillet, lamb, striploin steak, pork chops and a variety of sides including chips, salads and sauces. All the meat was fresh from Farmer’s Choice, and it was evident as soon as you had a taste. My favourite dish was the beef striploin steak though the pork was also quite delicious. The meat was packed full of flavour and I must admit, made me reconsider my limited red meat diet.

Eagle’s Steakhouse has a great ‘Express Lunch’ offer every day from noon to 4pm, with 2 course set menus at Ksh 2000 and 3 courses at Ksh 2,500. There is also the option of the a la carte menu with a vegetarian option also available.

The staff were friendly and the service fantastic so Eagle’s Steakhouse has made my list of restaurants I love in Nairobi and I will be making plans to go again. The express lunch is perfect for the savvy diner who would like to have a quick, delicious and affordable gourmet business lunch while enjoying scenic views of the Nairobi National Park.
