Who doesn’t love a spa day? After a stressful month, I really needed a day of pampering. So when I got wind of a new spa that’s opened at Movenpick Hotel in Nairobi, I quickly booked an appointment for a 60 minute massage. Spa by Xenaxia is a chain of premium spas in different locations across Kenya including Movenpick Hotel, Fairmont the Norfolk, Wadi Degla Club Runda, JW Marriott Mara Lodge and Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport.

The spa is located across the pool area on the 2nd floor. You get to the reception at Movenpick, take the lift to the 2nd floor to the Baluba restaurant and walk across the bridge over the pool all the way to the end. I shared my treatment slot with 3 other lovely ladies. The spa reception is lovely and it was a relief to arrive after being stuck in traffic for over an hour. They served us some water as well as iced hibiscus tea, which I gladly enjoyed. We were then ushered up a flight of stairs to the spa which consists of a gorgeous resting area, massage rooms, a changing room with lockers, washroom and shower, and my favourite, a steam room and sauna. In terms of space, the spa is for intimate groups with 4 being the ideal number at a time, with the rest, incase of a bigger group, in the relaxation area waiting for their turn.

I started my treatment with 15 minutes in the steam room to open my pores as well as get into relaxation mode before my massage. I was then ushered to the massage room and enjoyed 60 minutes of bliss. Spa by Xenaxia differentiate themselves from other spas through a dedicated massage technique that’s unique to them. I opted for the Fusion Massage because I wanted something gentle and relaxing. I am not a fan of too much pressure so anything deep tissue and beyond isn’t a top choice for me.

The masseuse was professional and quick to ease into my preferred massage pressure. I actually ended up falling asleep. After the massage, I hopped into the sauna for an enjoyable 20 minutes and then went to lie down at the relaxation area and hydrated. I wrapped up my appointment with a warm shower to freshen up.

Since it was a Friday evening, we opted to enjoy Sizzling Friday at Baluba restaurant by the pool. Sizzling Friday is an all you can eat buffet offer enjoyed alongside good music and delicious cocktails. For Ksh 3,000 you enjoy the buffet that includes a live meat station and a welcome cocktail. It was a great way to end a lovely day.

I would definitely recommend Spa by Xenaxia and I will try another location since we’re spoilt for choice. They also offer SPArty packages which are excellent for groups of friends for occasions like baby showers, hen parties, team building or just a relaxing day out. The spa can be booked by groups of upto 50 people and tailored to your requirements including food and drinks at Baluba. They also offer Lamaze and Sports massages. Check out the different packages and costs on their website here.and costs, visit their website here.

Happy relaxing!
