Creating A Well Dressed Classified on OLX

Creating A Well Dressed Classified on OLX

Apparently, people don’t buy clothes, unless their shoes, from classifieds. They’d rather buy them from a Facebook page or group or online store. I thought that’s a pretty interesting revelation. I am yet to accept it as fact and will only do so after I have tried and failed to sell my clothes on OLX. Yes, I have a lot of clothes from my skinnier and younger days that need to go. Most of them are almost new and I’m thinking I might as well make some money from them rather than having them fill up all my closet space. I’d hate to have to create a Facebook page and start posting pics of my dresses, but if comes down to it, I will do just that.

I have been doing some research on OLX to get a sense of what people post and to get an idea on how to go about my own post. I noticed the price range of dresses falls between Ksh 700 and Ksh 1500. That’s quite affordable. I also noticed that there’s an offering of both new and mitumba dresses. OLX does not discriminate… My favourite post so far reads, ‘Fancy Petite And Plus Size Dresses Both Formal And Casual’. I love the caption and that there are a good number of pictures to give you a sense of the kind of dresses available. Also, the price is 699… Save that 1 bob ladies!

Sometimes, simplicity will also win a buyer over. Simply stating, “Red peplum dress” or “Red ankle wedge” coupled with a nice picture is all you need. They’re going for 1300 and 2500 respectively by the way and I am thinking about it, especially the dress. I checked out a couple of other classifieds under fashion and noted the posts that stood out to me and why and I  have come up with a few tips that I think are a winning strategy.

1. Choose the right category: This may seem obvious but it may not. Make sure you pick the right category.

2. The picture: It has to be flattering. I think a good way to think about it is take as many pics as you would take to have the perfect selfie!

3. The caption: Use phrases and words like, ‘The best’, ‘fancy’, ‘stylish’, ‘amazing’, ‘unique’ and ‘designer’.  Basically words that will catch a potential buyer’s eye.

4. The description: Proofread this (I get distracted by poor spelling) and write it in a captivating way to hook a potential buyer.

5. Give proper details of your location: This makes you look a little bit more trustworthy.

Look out for my clothes on OLX from next week (yes, I am shamelessly plugging that in). Hopefully these tips will help me sell everything! Now to call a guy about a red peplum dress…
