Vanessa Mdee (Vee Money) isn’t new to the music scene. She is better known for being the first Tanzanian VJ for MTV. She has been steadily gaining fame as a singer over the past year. Her latest offering is ‘Hawajui’. ‘Hawajui’ has a pronounced taarab sound that works to make it a very catchy song. The single is basically a telling off of haters who talk about you behind your back yet they don’t know anything about you or your life.

Vanessa looks stunning in the video. The styling is well done with most of the outfits being gorgeous African prints. There is also some great choreography featured in the video. One of the most pronounced things is the obvious product placement. Crown Paints is featured heavily in the video, with Vanessa and an older woman (who I assume is playing her mother) have what is pretty much a paint fight. I’m not the hugest fan of the paint fight scene (though I still think it’s cute and looks like fun) but it serves to show that EA artists can plug in on the corporate money in their videos.
