OLX

I have been going over my New Year resolutions (yes, I made those but I promise I won’t do that again) and I feel like I have done okay except in the adventure department. I had this long list of things I was to do like go bungee jumping, white water rafting, climbing Mount Kenya, run a marathon, cycle through Karura and finally learn how to play the guitar. For some reason, I thought I had time until I woke up and realized it’s November and I have yet to start on my list. Bungee jumping and mountain climbing will have to wait till next year. I really don’t think I have it in me just yet. However, I’ve been thinking that I can still start on the cycling and the guitar lessons.

I have decided to buy a bike. Oh and no, I don’t mean a motorbike. I am scared of those. I mean a good old fashioned bicycle. I went to a sports shop to check out mountain bikes and wow, they are not cheap. You could buy a plot with some of these prices. So I shelved the bike idea and decided to try the guitar idea. How it is that I call myself an artist and don’t know the price of a common musical instrument like a guitar is beyond me. Yes, it is expensive. I had given up on getting anything checked off my list until a friend suggested that I check out classifieds. So I ended up on OLX.

Surprisingly, it didn’t take me long to find what I was looking for. OLX actually has a hobbies-art-sports category. I had blocked out an hour to find anything close to what I wanted and it took me all of ten seconds to see a few. The first mountain bikes I came across were all in the Mombasa area, which was unhelpful to me. Finally, I found a guy selling a couple of bikes for Ksh. 7,000 in westlands. This may actually go somewhere. Look out for Instagram pictures of me in the coming weeks on my new bike.

As for the guitar, I found an acoustic guitar still on OLX going for Ksh. 8,000. I am still debating on this one though as I’m tempted to go for a piano instead. I’ll think about it. There are even oil paintings for sale on here. Seriously, how have I never known about this? I can see where a lot of my Christmas presents to myself will be coming from. Maybe this year won’t end so badly after all.
