Sondeka

‘Sondeka’ is loosely translated Sheng for “to make” or “create”.  The Sondeka Festival will encompass this spirit of creativity through 3  days of creation, curation, innovation, fun, games and music. There will be screenings of Kenya’s award winning films courtesy of the Kenya Film Commission, a masquerade party, a robotics and technological innovations presentation, a fashion show and a Zumba, Yoga and Salsa class all for the price of one season ticket at only 1,500 shillings.

The Sondeka Festival is the brainchild of Creatives Garage. Two years ago, a team of creatives led by Liz Kiptum, were fed up of the disregard of Kenya’s creative innovators, and created a platform for creatives to find a voice. Creatives Garage is a broad spectrum platform for creatives to network, share ideas, collaborate, learn, gain market accessibility and push boundaries.

The festival will also feature talks by leading innovators and creatives on blogging, creative enterprise, tech innovation and techpreneurship, photography and more. One very interesting thing that will be happening at Sondeka is the creation of masterpieces within 48 hours by talented visual artists which will then be put up for auction with all the proceeds going towards Starehe Girls Center. The artists are grouped into 4 groups and include: Lionel Garang , Charles Ng’eno, James Wamalwa, Bryo Much, Gemini Vaghela, Natasha Joshi, Onyis Martin and Brian Omolo.

Sondeka is a family event and so there will be plenty of activities for kids to enjoy from fun games to arts and crafts. All the events at Sondeka will run concurrently. The festival takes place at the Ngong Racecourse from 18th to 20th October 2014.
