Phone Review: Infinix HotX507
The Infinix Hot X507 is one of those phones that performs better than what it’s priced at. I’ve had a few weeks with the phone and it’s a pleasant surprise in the way of affordable smartphones. Infinix is already a hot cake in Nigeria and from the look of things will be making a huge splash in Kenya as well.
Price
The phone is retailing at a very affordable Ksh 6,999. This is as pocket friendly as smartphones come.
What’s in the box?
The box is pretty standard, coming with the phone, charger, battery and earphones.
Design and Display
The curvy edges, a 5 inch touchscreen, being available in a fun array of colours ranging from brilliant yellow, bright green, silk white, charcoal black and radiant red, make the Infinix Hot X507 an undeniably good looking phone. I especially like how light it feels in my hand (it weighs 160 grams). The screen resolution is a decent 480 by 854 pixels and the screen still reads well even in sunlight.
Sim Card
As with most phones in this range, it’s a dual sim. It is worth noting that the sim is a mini one i.e. the normal size one issued by mobile operators.
Memory and OS
The Hot X507 comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat, 1GB RAM, 16GB of memory and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. The memory is expandable to up to 32GB. This is great for those of us who take lots of pics and store music on our phones. I have been using the phone heavily, even having several windows open at a time, and so far it has yet to hang on me.
Camera
The back camera is 5MP with the front being 2MP. This is okay for this price range. I used the phone to take some pictures at an event I attended and they were pretty decent (especially the selfies). The camera response time is actually better than most as well.
Connectivity
The phone is capable of accessing both 2G and 3G. It also has the option of WiFi. I didn’t experience any issues as far as connectivity was concerned.
Battery
Once you go smart, you lose battery life doesn’t apply here. The battery is a 2000mAH Li-Ion battery and can last for even three days with average use. I used it quite heavily and the battery lasted over a day before it needed a recharge. That’s pretty good.
Where is it available?
The Infinix Hot X507 is currently only available on the Jumia online store. This could be a major hindrance to potential buyers as deliveries are made after 21 days (that’s a long wait) and the phone is only available via pre-order.
Verdict
For that price, this is phone is a pretty sweet deal. With those specs, it should be worth over Ksh 10,000, so the Ksh 6,999 price tag is a great bargain. I’d say it has the potential to be a major player as far as the affordable smartphones market is concerned.
