Julio Ludago

Julio Ludago; a professional mountain guide, has become the first mountaineer to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro using the new ASUS Transformer T300 chi, in an  recently concluded expedition campaign dubbed #TheClimbAfrica. Alongside other tech devices, the ultraportable tablet was used by Julio to document images and videos for his fans on the web as a way of creating awareness during his climbing challenge.

According to ASUS, Julio’s successful climb was in part possible because of the flexible technology of the Transformer 2-in-1 device which is capable of withstanding harsh environments.

On his part Julio noted; “I would not have done it without appropriate technologies that includd the Transformer tablet which enabled me to communicate with my fans throughout Africa as I scaled the heights.”

The end of the campaign also marked ASUS’ announcement of prediction time winners for Julio’s summit challenge. The winners include Allan Thairo and Dennis Murii Irungu who predicted closest times of 11 hours and 10 hours, 45 minutes 30 seconds respectively.

Last year Swiss-Ecuadorian Karl Egloff broke the record by completing the climb in 6 hours, 56 minutes and 24 seconds. Karl managed to run up the Umbwe Route and descent via Mweka.  Julio who hoped to beat this record ascended and descended the mountain via Umbwe route- Western breach, clocking a time of 11 hours and 8 minutes.
