new blue band

Spreads like Blue Band are mostly used on bread. Bread is delicious especially when it’s fresh out of the oven and spread makes it even tastier. Whether you choose to toast it or make a sandwich, spread and bread go well together. In true Kenyan fashion however, spread also finds its way into the ingredient list of a lot of meals. Blue Band has recently added Omega 3 and Omega 6 to its iconic spread, hence more reason to add it to our diets. Here are 10 of my favourite meals that are more delicious with some Blue Band in them.

1.Uji

Porridge is a staple in a lot of Kenyan households. A lot of my favourite uji memories are breakfast with my late grandma. She would make uji for her grandkids in the morning for breakfast and she would add Blue Band (a trick she learned from my mom) to make it tastier.

2. Ugali

Ugali is another staple on Kenyan tables and with good reason too. It’s affordable to cook and is packed with nutrients. The key to adding Blue Band in ugali is to add it when the ugali is about halfway cooked so as to give the ugali time to stick together. The outcome in mu opinion is pretty delicious.

3. Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes and a rich beef stew with a side of spinach is my favourite meal. Add a spoon or two of Blue Band (depending on how much you’re making) to the potatoes when they’re half mashed. This will ensure that the spread is evenly mixed.

4. Githeri

This is probably the most common meal that gets some Blue Band love. You can add it in the cooking githeri or have everyone add a teaspoon to their plate. For even more tastiness, add some avocado. Avocado and Blue Band is heaven.

5. Rice

To keep rice from sticking together while cooking, it’s a good idea to add oil. You can add cooking oil or for extra tastiness, you can add spread. Now that’s two birds with one stone.

6. Vegetables

Whether it’s spinach, sukuma wiki, cabbage or a vegetable stir fry, adding a dash of Blue Band makes it more delicious. This is especially true for kids who may find it a little difficult to eat their veggies.

7. Boiled maize cobs

Boiled maize cobs are such a versatile meal in that they can be had for breakfast and paired with various sides, they can be had for lunch or supper. Spread a little spread on it and voila!

8. Mutura

This one can be up for debate and perhaps may be an acquired taste, but I absolutely love this combination.

9. Spaghetti

As with ugali, it’s a good idea to add the spread after the spaghetti is almost ready.

10. Eggs

Eggs (fried) are so yummy with Blue Band. Actually, anything you could add eggs to like pancakes and cookies are delicious with some spread in them.
