June Gachui

June Gachui, one of Kenya’s most accomplished musicians, is set to launch her album on August 30th at the Kenya National Theatre. Often tapped as a ‘June of all trades’, in addition to her love for music, June is an acclaimed thespian and an accomplished Intellectual Property (IP) lawyer.

With over a decade of experience performing live, she has been blessed to grace stages in the US, Australia, UK, France, Uganda and all over Kenya with notable features being opening for Joe Thomas at The Tusker Lite Experience in March 2012, Motown in June 2013, Jazz Under The Stars in August 2014, Pamoja Concert with Owuor Arunga in September 2014, Simplified Soul JAM in August 2015 and Koroga Festival in May 2016 to mention a few.  June has also graced numerous stages, having been at Phoenix Players for over 10 years. Some of the most memorable performances include two one-woman shows namely; ‘My Brilliant Divorce’ and ‘Shirley Valentine’. In addition, she played major roles in ‘Wife Begins at Forty’, ‘It Runs in the Family’ and ‘Steel Magnolias’ to name a few. June was also the leading lady in Sterling Quality’s ‘Lwanda Man of Stone’ a truly Kenyan musical where she played Nyaber.

Dubbed ‘Twenty Years’, June’s debut album is a testament of her 20-year musical journey and life experiences, as well as an expression of her contagious persona. A lifetime of performances has seen June flex her cords to sing tunes of every genre but her own style is one she fondly refers to as Nyummy Music; songs that will light and stoke a warm feeling within every listener. Lyrics that speak of life. Melodies loaded with feeling. Her ultimate goal is for fans new and old to relate to the stories told by each track on the list.

The stage will be set on Tuesday 30th of August 2016 at the newly refurbished Kenya National Theatre for an exclusive evening, poised to be an unforgettable out-of-the-ordinary experience for all in attendance. The production will feature collaborations with the incomparable Eddie Grey, the one and only Blinky Bill and June’s all girl band The Flower Project.
