This week has seen a lot of new music released by young Kenyans. I had pretty much decided my jam of the week until I came across the collaboration between Le Band and Suzziah. I knew who Le Band was due to their collaboration with Khaligraph Jones in 2016 but had no idea who Suzziah was. After a quick search, I found a dance song of hers on YouTube, Take My Hand that was pretty decent. As for the Number 1 track,  I think I saw the YouTube link on Twitter (can’t remember from who), clicked on it and the rest as they say, is history. I literally can’t stop playing this song! The track is produced by MG with the video directed by Moses Osidiana of Brainworks Films.

The video stars the charming Pascal Tokodi and revolves around a rather cute young couple love story that involves drinking in a park, some sneaky shoplifting and partying. The first verse is by Le Band and is an interesting mesh of each of the band members voice and style culminating in the catchy chorus. Suzziah comes in on the second verse and just kills it. Her voice is beautiful, lyrics are well-written and she is gorgeous. Le Band and Suzziah are at the party Tokodi and his love interest end up at for the duration of the video. The party scene works as the energy and vibe is on point with the song.

One of the things I can’t overstate how much I love about this jam is the lyrics. I also like the sampling of Tessane Chin’s Call Fi Mi Cure. Suzziah’s voice is flames on this and I appreciate a sampling that actually works. Also, Suzziah has that x factor and I hope to see much more from her. The video is cheeky, sexy, fun and cute in all the right amounts. It’s a pleasure to see younger musicians doing their thing and doing it well.

Fav lyrics: “Çall me your number 1, baby you can call me your supergirl…”

Fav moment: Suzziah every time. That melanin is popping!

Jam best for: Reminding your bae that you adore them. Too cute.

Rating: 4.7/5
