Darling Kenya have their finger on the pulse when it comes to braids in Kenya. I can’t think of anyone I know, including myself, that hasn’t used Darling Kenya braids expecially their most famous and best selling brand, Abuja. Though Abuja is their most popular product, they also house other popular brands such as Expression and Hi-Yaki. Their weaves, wigs and extensions are also popular and Darling is present in 14 African countries.

I attended the launch of Darling Kenya’s latest addition to their already impressive stable at Sankara Hotel and I was not disappointed. I was curious as to what the product would be exactly as I had been informed that the hashtag was #HairLightAsAir, a provocative hashtag if I ever saw one. The setup was great and after bitings and drinks with entertainment by Gogo Simo band, the main event kicked off.

The result of an extensive research and development process, Elegant Braid is made from a combination of premium light-weight fibres that ensure the hair is not pulled, hence taking care of the hairline, which is a . This braid offers a neater, shinier finish because of its smooth texture and long-lasting sheen. The premium fibres also give Elegant Braid the best full hot water curls to ensure different styling options and keep consumers looking fashionable.

I braid probably 1-2 times a year because I find braids heavy and painful. I have a sensitive scalp and a lot of hair on my head and most braids tend to not cater for that. I braid as a protective style as I rock natural hair and one of my main worries is adding strain to my hairline. Darling Kenya’s Elegant braids seem promising and I may try them out.

We were seated for a hair show and I was glad I got a front row seat that gave me a great vantage point to take in the show. The MC was the ever radiant Kalekye Mumo and I spotted a few fashion and beauty industry movers and shakers including Ajuma and Olive Gachara.

Darling Kenya Marketing Manager, Victoria Kieti-Chesire, said the introduction of the Elegant Braid leverages the brand’s continued commitment to consumer-relevant innovation and quality and that the brand will seek to increase its equity and advocacy through tailor-made engagements with local salons and stylists.

The hair show was fun and innovative and I spotted some hair styles I would love to try out. The wardrobe was gorgeous and was by Glam Gowns. The participating salons in the hair show were Afro Siri, BlackButtefly, Posh Palace, Amadiva, Ashleys, Maya’s, Revolutions, Azeeleza’s and Waves and Lenghts. Here are some of my favourite moments from the show.
