Strength of a Woman Film Poster

PickPoint Production Studios’ award winning fiction-drama dubbed “Strength of a Woman” is set to officially premiere in Kenya on 5th March, 2015 at the Prestige Plaza Planet Cinemas and will continue screening during the International Women’s Day weekend.

Praised as “an excellent film… about basic human dignity”, Manasseh M. Chege and Wanjiru Gathu’s heartrending movie follows the remarkable and challenging story of Julia (played by (Rose K. Njoroge) a 16 year old emotionally traumatized girl being raised by a financially struggling mother and an abusive father.

“Strength of a Woman” explicitly celebrates acts of courage and determination by one ordinary woman who plays an extraordinary role in her family and community and it is envisaged that the film will inspire many more women in Kenya to stand up and be agents of change.

Making the announcement, Pickpoint Productions Studio Creative Director Manasseh M. Chege said, “International Women’s Day is the time to uphold women’s achievements, recognize challenges, and focus greater attention on women’s rights and gender equality and we have done our part by highlighting this in our movie “.

The film, which won an amazing five awards at the 2014 Kalasha Awards for Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Lighting and Best Original Score stars renowned Kenyan actors with Rose K. Njoroge taking the Lead role and Laura Leila Wingate, Ashford Kirimi, Sandra Dhacha taking up supporting roles which they expertly and vividly depict.

It has previously screened at the American film market between 4th and 12th November 2014 and the Berlin Interfilm Festival where it won a distribution deal for 2015. The film is directed by Gilbert Lukalia, Director of well acclaimed films such as Shattered and The Marshall of Finland.

After the premiere, the creators of the film will embark on a countrywide screening with the first phase targeting Nairobi in March, Nakuru in April, Kisumu in May, Eldoret in June, Mombasa in July and subsequently other major towns in the country.
