Idd Aziz and Chumba Live At The Elephant

Idd Aziz has an electrifying presence on stage. His voice has an Arab-esque tinge to it reminiscent of muezzins of yore. His musical odyssey began at the tender age of thirteen when cupid shot him and he discovered an adulterated love for music. At the ripe old age of fifteen, he had started performing at stages, wowing audiences both local and international. This later led him to Tronheim in Norway where he honed his skills performing with a number of orchestras there.

His music has been described as sweet incense wafting in the air. His voice sound like Ismail Lo, Lokua Kanza, Salif Keita, and Youssoun N’dour’s. This versatile musician is not only vocally gifted, but plays about five instruments including the guitar and percussions. Idd Aziz has played with the likes of Angelique Kidjo and Youssou N’dour among other greats.

Chumba can only be described as ‘super-woman’. Affable, bubbly and poised, it is hard to imagine that she was once in the Kenya Armed Forces. It is here that her musical leanings came to the fore thanks to the Maroon Commandos that she was part of. She is not only an amazing singer, but an established entrepreneur, as well as a forensic investigation student.

Chumba is credited with penning some of the band’s most famous hits, as well as most of the music in their critically acclaimed album that dropped in 2008. This successful period with them is what gave her the much needed confidence boost to jumpstart her own career once she left. She sings in her native language Kalenjin, as well as Kiswahili, Lingala and a host of other languages.

The talented Idd Aziz and Chumba will be gracing the stage at The Elephant on Friday 3rd July from 8pm. The Elephant is located in Lavington on Kanjata road off James Gichuru road. Advance tickets are going for Ksh. 800 on Ticket Sasa and Ksh. 1200 at the gate.
