Safaricom is celebrating 20 years and in the spirit of celebration has launched a new campaign dubbed “Twende Tukiuke”. Twende Tukiuke means to go beyond the ordinary into something greater. It’s already garnered a lot of buzz online as Kenyans talk about what it means to them.

Safaricom is Kenya’s biggest telecoms operator and with this new campaign has recommitted its brand promise to its customers ushering in its third decade of growth.

The launch was hosted by Abel Mutua and Churchill and streamed on YouTube for all Kenyans to watch. The pair took us on a journey through Safaricom’s milestones over the years, that included playing their iconic ads and great interviews with beneficiaries of Safaricom’s innovation.

Yvonne Okwara then took the stage and interviewed the new CEO, Peter Ndegwa. It was an in-depth interview that showed the new CEO is going to focus on SMEs and leveraging data. It’s definitely going to be an interesting few years.

The next phase of Safaricom’s growth will be driven by a vision to become a purpose-led technology company by 2025. This will see the service provider continue its innovation tradition and simplify its products and services in line with its FOR YOU brand promise. This comes a few weeks after the launch of its sustainable business report.

“In the past two decades, Safaricom has grown from a telecommunication service provider to a technology company and our customers have been a key part of this journey. We are cognizant that technology and a data-driven economy can further support Kenya’s economic growth and these will be our launchpad for the next 20 years,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom.

The telco will be going beyond being a connectivity and payment platform to become a lifestyle-driven brand that empowers different sectors in transforming their lives. These sectors include health, education and the agriculture sector. As part of the strategy to become a purpose-led technology company by 2025, Ndegwa also noted that Safaricom plans to build new digital ecosystems in order to give holistic technology solutions to the aforementioned sectors.

Safaricom’s 20th anniversary celebrations come with goodies for all customers.
