Watermelons are so delicious on their own and are super hydrating especially in the heat. I therefore almost always have a watermelon in my fridge for snacking on in the hotter months. I’ve been cutting down on sodas and other fizzy substitutes and began using watermelon juice as my mixer and it’s been a game changer.

Here are two delicious recipes for watermelon gin coolers that are sure to hit the spot:

Recipe 1: Classic Watermelon Gin Cooler

This recipe is a simple and refreshing take on the gin cooler.

Ingredients:

2 cups chopped seedless watermelon

3 ounces gin

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice (optional)

Sparkling water, to top

Ice

Lime wedges and watermelon slices, for garnish

Instructions:

In a blender, puree the watermelon chunks until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any pulp, if desired.

Fill two glasses with ice. Add 1.5 ounces of gin to each glass.

Pour the watermelon juice evenly between the glasses.

Top with sparkling water to your desired level of sweetness and fizz.

Garnish with lime wedges and watermelon slices.

Serve immediately.

Recipe 2: Cucumber Watermelon Gin Cooler

This recipe adds a delightful twist with the cool and refreshing cucumber.

Ingredients:

1 cup chopped seedless watermelon

1/2 cucumber, peeled and chopped

3 ounces gin

1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

Mint leaves, for garnish

Ice

Instructions:

In a blender, combine the watermelon and cucumber. Blend until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, if desired.

Fill two glasses with ice. Add 1.5 ounces of gin and 1/4 ounce of lemon juice to each glass.

Pour the watermelon-cucumber juice evenly between the glasses.

Garnish with mint leaves.

Serve immediately.

If you prefer your drinks on the sweeter side, add a splash of simple syrup or honey to taste. You can also add garnishes such as rosemary, basil, orange peel based on your preferences. Feel free to also adjust amounts according to your liking. When it comes to storage, watermelon juice does go bad quite quickly so consume in a day and try to make fresh batches every time to avoid wastage.

These watermelon gin coolers are perfect for solo drinking or for hosting parties. I’ve made them when I’ve had people over and they’ve been a hit, so enjoy. Cheers!
