Happy Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, 10th May, and is a lovely time to show your gratitude to your mother or mother figure for all the love and support they’ve shown you through your life. Mothers are special and considering the amount of sacrifices they make for us, the lease they deserve is a day in which we can let them just how special they are to us.

You can get your mother an expensive gift, be it jewelry, dinner at a 5 star restaurant, spa treatment or a weekend getaway. These are all great gifts and she’ll definitely appreciate them. You can however, change it up and do things for your mom this Mother’s Day that could be considered inexpensive, but are actually priceless.

1. Cook her a festive meal

A lot of moms spend a huge chunk of their day making meals for their kids. Even though you’re much older and perhaps not living at home, you never forget your mother’s cooking. Why not surprise your mom this Mother’s Day by taking over the kitchen and whipping up some of her favourite dishes? She’ll feel super pampered especially if you have siblings and you all chip in the cooking.

2. Plan a Home Movie Date

Get a couple of movies that you know your mom would like, make some delicious chicken sandwiches and sit back and have a movie marathon with your mom (and siblings if you have any). You can never go wrong with comedies. Make sure to check the PG rating though to avoid some awkward sex scenes where you’ll be fiddling with your food pretending not to see what’s on the screen.

3. Make her a DIY gift

There are lots of cool DIY (Do It Yourself) gift ideas on Pinterest. Interior décor items are pretty easy to make as the raw materials are already existing items in the house. You can make candle holders, vases (make sure to put flowers in them), photo albums and other cool and actually useful things.

4. Go on a nature excursion

Go on a drive out of town or even to one of the park spaces around like Arboretum and Karura Forest for a walk and picnic. If you’re up to it, you can even go on a bike ride. Karura has bike trails and even offers bicycles for rent. There are also other fun nature excursions at giraffe center, giraffe manor and even more if you’re willing to take a drive an hour or two out of town.

5. Go for a dance or yoga class

Nothing gets those feel good hormones flowing better than some exercise. Exercise is even better when it’s fun. There are lots of dance and yoga classes available especially on the weekend. This can be a great way to bond with your mom.

All in all, whatever you decide to get your mom this Mother’s Day, make sure you spend some quality time with her if you can. Our time is the most priceless thing we can give our loved ones.
