I saw one of those what would you tell tyounger self polls on social media the other day and it got me thinking. One of the things that has always bothered me is how hard I am on myself. It’s literally taken me years to learn to be gentle with myself and it all stems from my need to excel and accomplish great things. Obviously I am human, so I have plenty of flaws and failings which can be difficult to process when your world revolves around success.

What would I tell my 20 year old self? I’d tell her that she’s enough. Enough doesn’t mean perfect. Enough doesn’t mean that there’s no work to be done. It just means that she is whole and beautiful already and that the need for growth does not negate that. Enough means no one has the right to put you down. Enough means you are worthy of respect. Enough means you are valuable. Enough means you are worth making effort for. Enough means you are worth making time for. Enough means you are worthy of honesty. Enough means you are worthy of love.

Yes, the phrase ”You are enough” can come off cliche but it is a true statement nonetheless and should be said to people more often. Even more importantly, it is a statement we should say to ourselves as a reminder that though we are works in progress, we are still wonderful and should be patient with ourselves as we go along.
