The Macallan Triple Cask in Kenya: A Luxury Whisky Experience
Founded in 1824, luxury Single Malt Scotch Whisky The Macallan, is ranked the number 1 Malt Whisky in value globally, and has been distributed and been available in most premium outlets in Kenya since 2012. Edrington, the makers of The Macallan Whisky, have announced the introduction of the new aged Triple cask series of Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky in the Kenyan market. In 2018, The Macallan transformed from the non-aged 1824 series to the new aged Triple Cask Matured Macallan series of 12-year-old, 15-year-old and 18-year-old Whisky.
Edrington held an exclusive launch of the Triple Cask series in Nairobi at Capital Club, that was attended by Sanele Gwala, Regional Marketing Manager – Africa at Edrington, Jackline Mburu, the Area Manager – East Africa & Indian Ocean Countries, Edrington and Joseph King’ori, Chief Executive Jeyfine Wines Co. Limited, the official distributors of The Macallan Whisky, with exclusive import and distribution rights to Edrington’s single malt whiskies in Kenya.
The International Wines and Spirits Record (IWSR), notes that whisky consumption in Kenya grew by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.7% in the five years 2013 to 2018. This is expected to grow by another 18.8% in the next four years to 2023. With these growth trends envisioned to continue in double digits over the next five years, ‘The Macallan’ is currently re-aligning its business with a renewed focus on the growing interest and improving tastes in luxury goods by a new generation of sophisticated consumers in Kenya.
The Triple Cask Series
The Triple Cask series is an extraordinarily smooth and delicate range with a complex character, matured in European and American sherry seasoned oak casks and ex-bourbon American oak casks.
The Bottle
The new bottle design is broad-shouldered, with a distinctive chevron cut into the bottle as it tapers toward the neck. The outer packaging design has also been updated with BIG and BOLD age statements highlighting the age of the liquid. Crucially, the new bottles boast an anti-refill enclosure and anti-counterfeit technology to ensure that consumers are protected at the point of purchase.
Triple Cask Matured 12 Years Old
Colour: Rich straw
On the nose: Complex, with hints of vanilla, melon and lemon zest.
On the palate: Medium balanced with lemon citrus, vanilla and light toasted oak and nutmeg.
Finish: Lingering with melon, papaya, fresh oak and oak spice.
Triple Cask Matured 15 Years Old
Colour: Rich straw
On the nose: Sublime and full, with delicate hints of rose and cinnamon.
On the palate: Intensely rich chocolate with high notes of orange and raisin.
Finish: Lingering oranges and dried fruit.
Triple Cask Matured 18 Years Old
Colour: Light amber
On the nose: Exotic dried petals with coconut and vanilla orange citrus.
On the palate: Soft and velvety with orange citrus, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon.
Finish: Lingering with chocolate orange and a hint of wood smoke.
