The pandemic has meant a whole lot of free time is spent indoors. It’s not been all bad as I, as many others have, have been cooking quite a bit. I’ve perfected old recipes and tried out new ones, and it’s been a really exhilarating experience.

In as much as I’ve been doing quite a bit of cooking, I’ve also been ordering in some of my favourites to switch things up once in a while.

I’ve enjoyed most of my orders, but there are 3 that have become a favourite for both when I’m at home and when I go on a staycation in Nairobi.

Tsebo

This is the perfect choice if you want home cooking without doing the cooking yourself. Tsebo has a great menu that includes breakfast, lunch and dinner options that will keep you taken care of all day.

They have all my favourites on the menu including rolexes, vegetable rice, chicken wings, mushroom sauce, roast potatoes and kebabs. The portions are also generous and there are family packs as well as value packs that are all great options for groups. There are also children packs available for your kids.

I especially enjoyed Tsebo during a staycation with my sister and a few friends. The delivery was always on time and the food was delicious. It was comfort food that made us feel like we were right at home.

Zulu Meats

Zulu Meats is a butchery that has gone beyond basic meat delivery. The concept of aulucept of a butchery that primarily uses the online space to make sales is great. They have great meal packages great for groups that include dudes and drinks.I love their mutura and could have it every day. I’m also a fan of their marinated chicken choma and of course mbuzi choma.

I usually order the mutura and chicken choma when I’m at home, and ordered the meal pack with mbuzi choma while at a staycation, and it was a winner.

You can order through the number 0721575651. The delivery is at a fee based on location and is always prompt.

Kitchens of Sarova

A high-end hotel may not be the first option you think of when you think of ordering in, but the packages Sarova Panafric have are to die for.

You can order in starters like chargrilled chicken wings, main dishes like their delicious pan seared red snapper or phad thai as well as an assortment of desserts.

There are also family and group options available. If you order for 7 and above, the order comes with rosé and a butler. Yes, you read that right, a butler! This is a really great treat for a small birthday at home or a special lunch with loved ones.

I ordered for 8 poolside at a staycation and it was a fantastic experience. The food that included everything from oriental salmon to chicken biryani to penne pesto to strawberry shortcake, was mouthgarsmic and we washed it down with Lunetta rosé.

You can order directly from Sarova Panafric through 0709 111 000 or sarova.takeouts@sarovahotels.com. They are also available on delivery platforms like Glovo, Jumia Food and Uber Eats.

Happy eating!
