The pandemic has been an unprecedented experience, and that’s putting it lightly. I would never have imagined this would be the world’s current reality. I also never imagined that I would be indoors so much in a year. I’m used to going out to tonnes of events, eating out and travelling. When things started to open up, I decided I needed a break from the house, but one that still felt like home as I was simply not ready for hotels. I decided the best option would be a serviced apartment in Nairobi and landed on Woodmere Serviced Apartments.

Woodmere Serviced Apartments are located on Rose Avenue in Hurlingham, Nairobi. The property boasts studios at $45 per night, 1 bedroom apartments at $100 per night, 2 bedroom apartments at $110 and a 4 bedroom penthouse at $140 per night. There’s also a shared heated pool, jacuzzi and a sauna, as well as a gym.

I stayed in the penthouse for 2 nights with my sister and a few friends and it was a lovely weekend. The four bedroom apartment is situated on the top floor of the complex in Block A. It’s built on two storey levels, with a beautiful view of the pool and the property.

The apartment has a spacious living room with a fireplace and a cozy dining room. The design is open plan with a Lamu Swahili aesthetic. The decor is beautiful and the furniture is elegantly understated. The living room opens up to a lovely balcony with outside seating. The kitchen is American style and well equipped with everything you’d need to prepare, cook, enjoy and store your meals including crockery, cutlery, a fridge, electric cooker and microwave.

The master bedroom is on the lower floor and is en-suite, with a king sized double bed. The bathroom has a bath tub with a shower and a toilet and sink. There is a second room on the lower floor that connects to the master bedroom which has two single beds. The two rooms share the master bathroom.

Up the stairs, there are 2 rooms similar to the ones on the lower floor – one room with a double bed and another with two single beds. There’s no bathroom upstairs, the second bathroom is on the lower floor level near the door and features a shower, toilet and sink.

Linen and toiletries are provided as well as housekeeping. There’s also complimentary WiFi and use of the shared facilities like the pool, sauna and gym. You can carry, cook or order in your meals as well as drinks, but room service is available. Laundry services are available at an extra fee and you can request cots for babies. There is also a small electronic safe available.

We cooked some meals but we mostly ordered in. There’s a resident barbecue person available so you can arrange for a barbecue by the pool or have the grilled meat brought up to your room. I had some really delicious grilled goat meat and liver.

This apartment can fit 6 to 8 people and is perfect for families and group travel. The daily rate is $140 per night and $3,000 per month.

I enjoyed my stay and have already been back to stay in the 1 bedroom. Woodmere Serviced Apartments has definitely become one of my favourite places to staycation in Nairobi.
