Positive Thinking Word Cloud

Adulting is difficult. I knew this already but it still never prepared me for what it means to be an adult. Half the time I’m not sure if I’m on the right track. Mentors and books I’ve read reiterate that your 20s are a time to explore, experiment and fail as much as you can so you can learn what works for you. Still, I question how difficult it is to get to where I thought I should be by now. Especially as we live in the oversharing digital world, it’s difficult to not wonder if you’re on the right track when your peers’ Instagram and Facebook posts are a slew of #Blessed, #TurnUp and #DoingitBig and you’re broke sitting at home trying to figure out how to increase your income.

I knew I was made to be a creative entrepreneur when I was in primary school. I’ve spent half the time since trying to run away from that reality by taking jobs I already knew I was going to hate and second guessing my path because it was too difficult. The road less travelled is overwhelmingly unglamorous.  Still, it is incredibly fulfilling. What I have learned is that being an adult is about having the fortitude to see things through. It’s your life and the decisions you make are your decisions.

Are you happy with who you are or are you living the version of your life you feel other people will be happy with? The busyness of doing versus the busyness of being. To be is to be present. To be is to embrace the seasons of your life. When you stop competing, when you stop fighting, when you stop comparing, when you stop worrying, when you let go, when you trust the path and dare to throw your whole being into reaching your goals. To see beauty everywhere, to be aware of limitations and to transcend them, to weather the storms, to be content and still hungry, to live and die everyday, to be open to the universe, to live honestly and fiercely.
